LMHA Briefing Packet

Helpful Information for Voucher Holders

What to report, when to expect your recertification and inspection, and who to call. Keeping LMHA informed protects your voucher.

Report these changes within 10 days

A change in income, or anyone moving in or out of your household, must be reported to LMHA within 10 days. Request a Change of Information form from the office, complete it, and return it to LMHA.

If you add or remove a person from your household without notifying LMHA, you could lose your voucher.

Reporting changes

Each of these is handled with a Change of Information form, available from the LMHA office.

Change in income

You must report to LMHA within 10 days: new job, job loss, change in number of hours worked, change in rate of pay.

Adding someone to your household

You must first notify and receive approval from LMHA. If you add a person to your household without notifying LMHA, you could lose your voucher.

Removing someone from your household

You must notify LMHA within 10 days after the person moves out. If there is a death of a household member, please provide an obituary or death certificate.

Recertification and inspections

Annual recertification

Occurs beginning one year after receiving a voucher and finding a place to live. You will receive a packet in the mail to complete, sign, and return to LMHA.

Annual inspection

Once each year, and it does not always happen at the same time as your annual recertification. You will receive notification by mail listing the date and time. Anyone over 18 must be present to admit the inspector to your residence.

Missing more than one inspection may terminate your voucher status with LMHA. A request to reschedule must be in writing and submitted to LMHA before the date of inspection.

Special inspection

If during the year you experience a problem with your residence, you may request a special inspection, but only after notifying your landlord of the problem and giving them an appropriate amount of time to correct the issue. If the landlord does not resolve the issue, then give LMHA a request in writing.

Moving and paperwork

Request to move

You must reside in your unit for 12 months after you receive a voucher. Once the 12 months have passed, you must give LMHA a 30-day notice in writing that you want to move, and give your landlord notice per your lease.

Paperwork deadlines

Any paperwork or other information requested by your occupancy specialist must be completed and returned by the due date. Failure to do this may jeopardize your housing assistance or voucher.
